Good Korean Restaurant in the heart of Glen Burnie. The Banchan (various small pickled vegetables and other accompaniments) are changed daily. The barbecued meats I would come back to this restaurant at least once a month.

Lunch buffet review only! I used to eat here 2-3 times a week just for the buffet. I miss those days. It was full of good, hot food and fresh sushi (not the best, but just enough to fulfill the craving). It has gone downhill since, but it still worth a stop - now once a year :(

We have stopped by here and eaten many times. Normally eat the bulgolgi, and am always very pleased and very very full. The wait staff are all very nice and attentive.

They don't have AYCE Dinner Buffet like Advertised on the Outdoor Sign!!! They also charged me $32.95 for the Gal Bi although the Menu clearly states $26.95!!! The Soup FAILED MISERABLY, the Bon Chon was Below Average, but the Gal Bi was GREAT!!! Hard to Fuck Up Marinated Meat, though!!! The Raw Garlic Cloves was HELLA GOOD!!! Them were the SPICIEST Raw Garlic Cloves I ever ate!!! Won't be back for Dinner nor for the BBQ Table with these Prices!!! Especially when I can get STUPENDOUS AYCE KBBQ in California and Vegas!!! I'd consider coming back to try the AYCE Lunch Buffet, though...

I'd eaten here once before and had table-top bulgogi, which was very delicious. This past visit, just two of us, we had the special dinner for two (name escapes me). It was 40 bucks, but well worth the price. There were about 12 different side dishes, veggies and some fish items, each of which was pretty unique. Loved the kimchi and noodles and other items that I cannot identify or pronounce. Then came four small fried appetizers, which were also delicious. Not greasy, not too heavy, just right. Fried fish, fried tofu, pajun (friend seafood pancake), and fried dumplings (man doo). All of them, very yummy. Then, the entrées, if you can call them that. Let's say the meat course instead. Bulgogi, beef short rib, fried fish. They were all very nicely prepared, but not very hot. Not cold, but not hot either. Still, very flavorful and not overpowering. Great dinner on the whole, and a good value for the money. We left very full and could not finish everything. This could probably feed three people easily. Definitely a good example of tasty Korean cuisine! Visit there, and show a little respect, would ya? ;) Enjoy!

Wow!!! I dont know about their regular menu but they certainy know how to make a simple lunch buffet into a very bad one.. you wonder how can it go wrong? Well... what seems to be a variety of korean food is incorrectly seasoned... if seasoned at all and the quality of the produce used is... lets say.. like animal feed!!! Cuz seriously i felt like i was walking along a trough, trying to pick out what i can... even then dont let your eyes deceive you!! What you managed to pick out will make your inside hurl!! **** also they dont provide you with toliet seat covers---- blekkkkk!!!!!

I came back to try their lunch buffet and it was pretty empty when we came plus it was a Saturday. The price was decent and comparable to other buffets in the area particularly the Chinese ones which are sketchy because the stuff isn't very fresh. But the spread was average. There was miso soup with optional garnish, the usual kimchi and pickled radish which tasted pretty fermented and homemade lol. I really liked their japchae and chajamyung which was fresh and self serve. They only had bulgolgi for lunch which wasn't bad because they also served yellow curry with potatoes and carrots. Fried mandoo (dumplings) were not greasy but perfectly crunchy. Even though the variety was limited, it was only about $10 a person and they didn't even charge my 6 year old because they said he barely ate anything. I also like coming here because it is clean all around, they play nice classical music and they place is well kept which can't be said of the surrounding restaurants in GB.

Not impressed by this place. We ordered a serving of chicken and a serving of samgyupsal and I swear we received bulgogi instead of the samgyupsal...this wasn't a problem until we received the bulgogi...it was so fatty...salty and just nasty. The waittress kept asking about our order over and over...trying to get us all confused...finally my future mother in law asked "why don't you just write it down!" The grill wouldn't start and the waitress stated that "all of the grills were old and like that" This place was just old and worn out....This area has to have better Korean barbq! Don't think I will be returning here....

This is one of those classic Korean restaurants in America. So please don't expect modern persuasions places like honey pig would throw at the customer. The ladies work very hard to accommodate diners but you need to be patient on your end too. I've seen some very rude Americans. There's plenty of side dishes offered, they adjust for large groups, and the meat for grilling is good.

place is great. had the spicy monk fish. twas wonderful. near the end the waitress brought me a cup of ginger cinnamon tea that they make for the employees. talk about an explosion of sweet with a hint of spicy from the ginger. the prices are about right for the type of food fare. definitely on my hit list.

Lunch buffet was a disappointment, most pans with the good stuff were empty. But my mom confronted the waitress about it and they had the chef cook us a huge plate and brought it to the table. Sushi & Korean stews are overpriced. It's hot in the restaurant. They don't seem to use the AC for some reason. I stopped going here when East Moon opened up. Also, I found a better Korean place for stew on Aquahart road (woo chon).

The company makes the meal. I know this, and yet I'm always surprised when I see it played out in real life. I went here with a good friend who also loves Korean food, but neither of us speak Korean, so we stuck to what we knew -- bibimbap and the huge array of appetizer dishes that accompany it. Our conversation was rich, and the food accompanied it perfectly: light miso soup with tofu and scallions, tiny dishes of kimchi and glass noodles and anchovies and bean sprouts and I can't even remember what else! And finally, the glorious stoneware crocks filled with rice, egg, beef and vegetables, a lovely composition that's even lovelier when it's stirred vigorously into a fried rice-like concoction. This is Korean food at its best. But the reason Goong Jeon rates a fourth star has to do with the service. Our server's English wasn't perfect, but her friendly demeanor and honesty made her a real pleasure to interact with. She let us take our time deciding and showed us where the call button was on the table, so she wouldn't have to disturb us before we were ready to order. When we tried to order dumpling soup, she explained that it wasn't worth it since our meals came with miso soup. (Who DOES that?!) When she brought the appetizers, she kindly asked if we wanted explanations, and then proceeded to name and describe each item. We ordered soju (Korean wine) and she asked what we liked, then brought a variety that suited us perfectly and wasn't expensive. In fact, I think our whole meal was $32, and we were stuffed and happy! As we were wrapping up, we asked how long the restaurant had been opened (my friend lives in Glen Burnie, I used to, and neither of us ever knew it was there.) In the course of answering, our server told us all kinds of stories about the restaurant, the people she had served, and why she was glad to be out of the city: in one particularly harrowing tale, she was robbed at gunpoint, and twenty years later she still wakes up wondering why she didn't think to push the police call button. It wasn't over-sharing, honestly: it was one human being opening up to another, comparing experiences. I honestly think I would return just to chat with her again!

I really like this Korean restaurant. Their BBQ is great, especially the bulgogi. I also enjoy trying the plethora of kimchi that they serve.

This place is a joke ! I waked in at 12:20 for lunch . That had one table . The server told me " we will cook no more " I looked at buffet maybe 3 dumplings and left over nasty beef dish .It's 12:20 for lunch buffet !!!!!!

If you're looking for great Korean food, go to VA. This is the ONLY Korean restaurant in this area where I don't have to drive over 30 minutes. But this is another example of that old saying: sometimes the whole-in-the-wall places serve surprisingly good food. And this place meets that expectation. It looks like a dive from the outside, but both the lunch buffet and the dinner were mmmm-mmmmm delicious. I've been to far worse Korean eateries. This placeis above average and if you live in the Annapolis area, it's only a 20 min drive.

An average food quality for lunch buffet. Jjajangmyeon was pretty good among all the items.

I'm not an expert on Korean cuisine, although I'm Korean-American. What I do know is that outside of Virginia (especially Annandale) and Ellicott City and Columbia, MD, there aren't too many good Korean places. This place is easy to miss, especially being located out of the way, in a small Glen Burnie commercial district. But it's definitely a hidden gem in the rough. They nailed the Korean BBQ, with the grill incorporated into the tables, plus their marinated meats are spectacular. I recommend the gal-bee (beef short ribs). Heck, they'll grill it out back so your clothes and self aren't saturated with the smoky, beefy aroma that normally comes with Korean BBQ. The extra entrees we ordered were VERY generous and tasty (hey, it was mother's day and we went nuts). And the ban-chan (appetizers/sides) almost completely filled the table. That's still the thing I don't get about Korean restaurants: how are all these accompaniments even necessary, and how inconvenient is it to the restaurant and staff? Maybe one day my mom will tell me.

I wanted to really like this place. First off, the restaurant is very clean and the staff is extremely friendly. Overall, the food was good but not amazing. I found the menu a bit confusing as well. My friend and I split one order of kalbi and it turned out to be more than enough food. Recommend doing the same. Overall, a bit pricey for food that is just ok.

  • Leslie T.

Love the dinner menu here! The service is great and the food is not only delicious, but reasonably priced. They always bring out a ton of the ban-chan (side dishes) and will bring more if you ask. The stews are amazing if you are feeling under the weather. One of my favorites is the spicy pork. It always works well with the lettuce wraps. My kids love the chap jae noodles and the streamed mandu. Most of the foods are spiced well, however there are a couple of dishes that have a more Americanized spice to them. The spicy ddok (rice cake) tastes more like it has barbecue sauce on it as compared to a spicy pepper sauce. However, this is one of the best Korean restaurants I have been to since I left Korea.

Ever so often I'll go here for the lunch buffet which is from 11:00pm till 3:00pm. The buffet has an "ok" selection but taste pretty good. I think they should have a wider sushi selection for lunch. Make sure you park across the street next to the bank or Food Lion. Sometimes they can get pretty crowded but they have enough seating to accommodate large groups. I tried the Korean BBQ about 4 years a go and I can't remember how it was so that means it must have been "ok", lol.

We went there for a dinner party and the food was really good! The only downfall was the service because it was a very large group. Otherwise, the food was on point and the environment was really nice. I've been couple times before during the lunch buffet hours. And I really enjoyed the buffet. This time we ordered off of the menu and the food was really good! We will definitively go again.

Stay away! The Palace has really gone downhill...I've been here many-a-times within the last 8 or so years, this used to be my go-to place for warm jungol and jigaes, once Purim Oak closed. Visited yesterday, 08/04/2013 around 2:30pm. We waltzed in to see if there was a possible lunch buffet, none to be had. No problem, we took some menus and decided to go with 2X SachulTang (Goat Stew) and some Tang Soo Yuk. The latter arrives first and then banchan and then the stew. That was a little strange. During conversation with my lunch mate, we barely notice that the two other tables in the restaurant have packed up and left and the music that was playing was turned off. Surely they weren't going to kick us out minutes after banchan and main stew? . Nothing quite prepared us for what happened next. As we're beginning our soup, a doorbell rings from the side. I don't know who came in or what that signaled, but it may have something to do with the following events. A gentleman kept looking our from the kitchen at us and staring, I get it-- we're overstepping something? The website doesn't mention the palace closing but I digress. From the SAME spot, about 4-5 women come out and meet an older woman who was sitting there at the back BBQ tables waiting. They immediately begin arguing in Korean but at a low pace, 2 of those women kept staring at us and 1 of those were our waitress. They decided to go sit at a table back BBQ seating area. The next 45 minutes were the most intense dining experience I've had, there were fights, there were things being thrown, table slamming-- all from the few ladies sitting at a BBQ table. I mean, I get it's a family restaurant, there are squabbles but Christ, when you have guests? I even had to get about 20 mins of video on this as I was blown away how much these ladies were going at it. (If you've never been to the restaurant, this was happening an aisle over from our table and about 6 tables up, center of the room) We let it go on for those 45 minutes with not a dime of service. Do you know how long an argument feels when it's at the 45 minute mark? We had to get up, walk over, and interupt them(!!!!!) to ask for our check. No shit, right? Would you want to get into that, we really had half a mind to leave a bunch of cash and run as fast as possible. One girl--not our waitress-- was very apologetic. This all may seem very nit-picky, I eat at a LOT of Asian establishments everywhere from to Hangzhou to Flushing. When you're a young white guy who loves ordering up and down an Asian menu, you always find yourself with some sort of uncomfort and standards issue, it's part of the experience! I cut a lot of slack when appropriate but we all expect some ounce of hospitality and I expected more from Goong Jeon Palace. Shin-Chon, see you soon.

Lunch buffet was delish w service above average. Its best to park across street in the shopping mall since their street is so busy. Please was quiet for lunch, the beef & egg pancakes were the standouts on the buffet

Save yourself the money. This was probably the worst meal I have ever had in my entire life, and I have traveled to many, many countries. The food was absolutely disgusting, and to make matters worse, the fish wasn't even fresh. Then there was the service, which was equally horrible. When we walked in at 6:20 pm on a Friday night, they seemed confused that they had customers and nobody knew what to do. Then I noticed that we were the only ones in there. That should have been my tip-off. The waitress, while taking our order, acted surprised when I told her that my little girl, who was dressed in a purple shirt, pink shorts and pink glasses, was indeed a girl. Then she joked about being equally surprised that my date was a man. Then she laughed at us when we told her that the food was horrible, and didn't seem to care when she saw that we left 80% of the meal uneaten, and we told her we would not be back. To add insult to injury, the bill came to over $60 and I decided not to leave a tip due to the fact that the food was horrible and so was the service. She literally chased me down as I was leaving, demanding a tip, which I refused. As I was walking out, I heard her exclaiming to another table of customers that I hadn't left a tip. Bottom line is, do NOT go there. I know I never will again,

We went here for dinner last week with another couple that have been coming here for a couple years. I have to admit, my expectations were not high. But I kind of prefer hole-in-the walls, so my expectations are never high. Overall, I thought the food quality was pretty darn good. The staff was incredibly kind and did not rush us, even though we were the last people in the place for at least an hour when we left at 8:30pm! We didn't venture too far off the typical menu: beef, shrimp and all the fixin's. The beer (don't remember the name) was good. I can see myself returning to this place with a large group. And I love place where I can wear jeans. But it's not special enough for me to take an out of town guest or even my parents.

Based on the one review on yelp at the time, I was a little wary about the one star this restaurant got, but the reviews on citysearch were better. So I figured I had to check it out for myself and form my own opinion. Because we had such a large party, they put us in one of the private rooms, which was nice because we were able to make lots of noise and be rowdy without disturbing everyone else in the restaurant (which wasn't very full anyway). Although, the room we were in was really cold. One of the servers brought in a heat lamp on one side of the room, but the other side of the room was still freezing. You had the option of eating at the dinner buffet ($18.99/person), which consisted of your choice of raw proteins and vegetables which you could cook at the table. I wish there were more Korean BBQ places around here where you can cook at the table. About 5 in our party chose that option. The rest of us ordered a bunch of dishes to share. We ordered three proteins, the bulgolgi, kalbi, and spicy pork. But because we were such a large party, our server said they would just cook it in their kitchen for us rather than let us cook it ourselves, so I was a little disappointed I didn't get to cook. Overall I thought the food was okay, I've definitely had better Korean food in this area. The bulgolgi wasn't that great, and the pa jun dough didn't taste right...I think maybe too much dough and not enough filler. I did enjoy the spicy pork and the chicken wings. I might try to go back some time with fewer people and try my hand at cooking the BBQ, or try the buffet.

DO NOT GO HERE! The first time we went there, we ordered kimchi soup and spicy pork. Kimchi soup was just OK, probably bacause of the MSG, but the spicy pork was awful, fatty and oily, and not spicy at all. So, we decided that perhaps they were just having a bad they and went back for the lunch buffet. We arrived at around 1:30 PM and the buffet is supposed to be over at 2:30 PM. What a rip off! The food was all dried up and they did not refill any empty items (like the important ones - bbq beef and kal-bi ribs). When we requested them to be refilled, the waitress brought out three pieces. Service was awful too. Don't waste your time going there...

Contrary to what others have posted about their lunch buffet, I'm giving this place a thumbs up. They have a pretty good selection of buffet items, including 2 choices of soup (miso or seaweed). I'm non-Korean Asian, so I can't be a judge of what's "authentic," but I'm guessing the food here is pretty good because during the summertime, they often have a busload of Koreans tourists who come here for a lunch pit stop. They seem the enjoy the food! When I first found out about this restaurant, I ordered their Soondubu. However, I stopped getting this dish here because they always came out spicy despite my request to have it not spicy, and I found other Korean restaurants with far better Soondubu. However, whenever I have a craving for other Korean foods, I find myself heading here for their decent lunch buffet selection.

Look for the sign that says "PALACE". The restaurant and the food are both above average. First, the facility: they avoid the Asian restaurant syndrome of ignoring the bathrooms - they are clean and modern (normally one had to go corporate to escape this problem - think P.F. Changs). The decor of the entire restaurant is well thought out, interior wood accents on clean, light walls. The food: authentic Korean. They do the little plates of appetizers (although without refills, as is sometimes customary) and the hot barley tea, both of which are good. On my last visit we skipped the in-table BBQ but we have had it in the past and enjoyed it. On our recent trip we had some excellent glass noodles and beef and some overly mild but well-executed steamed beef dumplings. Overall, the food is very good - not the best I have ever tasted, but a solid area contender. Service was friendly, but distracted. The whole package makes Goong Jeon not a place you dream about, but a place worth returning to when you next are in the neighborhood.

I went here for the lunch buffet one day. The place was almost empty at 12:30 and none of the food was especially good. I was thinking of coming back to try food from their menu or especially for some BBQ, but in the mean time I've just dealt with the trip to Ellicott City when I'm craving good Korean.

My family and I went here after my grandmother's funeral. The restaurant is out in the middle of nowhere but, the food is great! Their black bean sauce pasta (jja jang myun) is AMAZING. The best I've ever had! You can taste the smokiness in the sauce. Their BBQ is also amazing too...very well marinated and delicious. You cook it right at your table. The decor of the restaurant is very Asian. I've also tried their buffet and they have a variety of stuff. It's pretty good and pretty cheap. They have a small banquet area. Bathrooms are clean. There's also a bar area. I will go here again...when I'm in Glen Burnie.

If you are looking for Korean food near glen burnie, then Goong Jeon is where you need to go. The food is excellent, the ambiance is pleasant, and the service is usually quite good. For the best experience, get the Korean grilled dinners, they are lots of fun.

I have been to Goong Jeon several times, and have brought many visiting family members from the west coast. Korean doesn't get any better than in Southern California, but so far everyone I have taken here loves it. The miso soup is wonderful, the kimchi pancakes and the dipping sauces are amazing and I love their hot pot bibimbap. The service has improved the more I come and the last time our server even sat down with us and we had a nice talk since we were the only people there at the time. I have to agree with other reviews though, that the lunch buffet leaves something to be desired. The prices are a little high, but the food on the menu is great, and in my opinion worth a visit. If you have never tried Korean, and are the adventurous type, try the bibimbap, or bulgogi. Side dishes always come with your meal and are usually vegetables (marinated or pickled in some fashion) or sometimes dried anchovies (which I don't eat.) They do sell Korean beer as well if you like to try different kinds.

My previous Korean BBQ experience was Nam Kang in Baltimore City, so the bar was set. Given a previous review, I was skeptical, but I figured one review is insufficient to judge. Overall, I enjoyed Goong Jeon very much. The restaurant itself is emblazoned in brightly lit and neon signs. It is hard to miss on Crane Highway. Inside, it is quite large, clean and tidy. The bathrooms are clean too. Service was very attentive and the food was excellent. I came to Goong Jeon with a large group of 18 people. We were given a private room and were serviced by one waitress. We were offered beverages and given small appetizers (dried sardines, kimchi, pickled radish, and a spicy broccoli). Most of the table ordered entrees to share. There is a large variety of Japanese, Chinese and Korean Cuisine. I did not partake in these dishes, as my end of the table and I opted for the dinner buffet. This consisted of raw meats and veggies which you would cook on an open grille in the center of the table. Very cool! The buffet had unseasoned and/or marinated chicken, beef, duck, pork, shrimp, and oysters. Nothing is labeled at the buffet, so ask if you're unsure of the type of meat available and the marinade. Everything was very fresh and in ample supply. The marinated meats were amazing. Be sure to take two plates - one for the raw meat and the second for the cooked meats and veggies. Cooking at the table was fun and allowed for personal creativity. The buffet also provided leaves of romaine lettuce and bok choy for making wraps. It made the process a bit messy, but it was fun nonetheless. My food was delicious and because I had to cook my meal, I didn't eat too much. Cooking it sets a nice pace so that you're not continuously stuffing your face. Though I have had Korean BBQ before, this was definitely a unique experience. The buffet option makes the meal reminiscent of a Japanese hibachi, but you're the cook and have complete control over your own meal. I would recommend Goong Jeon for large group. Though there were 18 of us, the private room allowed for conversation from one side of the table to another. There is a pager button to summon the wait staff should you need additional help at the table. We weren't too worried about being loud and disturbing to other patrons. You're also bound to find an entree to your liking, given it's diversity. Order many entrees and share.
